Mentorship

Welcome!

The mentorship program.

This is aimed at someone who is newer or have a few years in the general motion graphics industry and needs help with navigating it, finding work, portfolio feedback, or has some other specific problem they want to solve. Common things would be things like portfolio/showreel review, help with steps to achieve a certain goal, questions about freelancing.

Why am I doing this?

After 15 years in the industry I felt like it was time to do something different (but adjacent to) from the day to day motion design work. The idea of a simple mentorship program came to me pretty quickly and felt like a logical step - a way to try something new while also hopefully helping new talent.

Naturally we’ll discuss different software and technicalities but this will not be a course in After Effects, Cinema 4D or any other. The focus will be to move your career forward and tackle more general motion design obstacles and questions.

Structure

  • 45 min Zoom call once a week for four weeks.

  • Followed by optional check-in Zoom calls once a month, up to four months.

  • I will answer emails between calls based on ability/time.

What is expected of you?

  • Be on time and prepare ahead of each Zoom call with a specific topic or issue you want to discuss.

  • To be flexible. Call times might have to shift based on my professional schedule, please keep this in mind.

  • To be open to constructive feedback, critique, and possibly trying new things that you might be uncomfortable with (depending on your issue / situation).

  • Respectful, open-minded, and committed.

If you’re interested

Send an email to motiondesignmentorship@gmail.com to apply. Your email should include a short bio, how long you’ve been in the general motion graphics industry (or if you’re a student about to enter the industry), your experience of it so far, and your portfolio, plus additional relevant pages like Instagram, Behance, and LinkedIn.

Most importantly, the email should include a detailed description of what problem(s) you’re trying to solve/improve upon. The email should be 200-400 words. The better you articulate your problem(s) and the more specific you are the better.

Since this is the first round of this program I’m only taking on one person at a time. If I choose your submission I will respond to your email with next steps and we’ll go from there.

The submission deadline is Nov 30. The program will start late 2025 or early 2026.

What outcomes can be expected from this program? No outcomes are guaranteed but we’ll do our best to tackle your specific issue.

Lastly, this program is free but if it for some reason isn’t working out I reserve the right to terminate it with immediate effect. Some reasons for termination might be lack of preparation, missed sessions, etc
